Mark 10:17-34

Do you trust God? Do you really trust God?

Mark is the only one who gives us this information. Matthew and Luke both tell us about them going up to Jerusalem. John tells us that the disciples tried to get Him to not go because of the danger. Mark is the one who makes this revealing statement: They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid.

It is one thing to face a situation trusting God to rescue you, perhaps even standing in confident faith that He will deliver you. It is something else to face a situation knowing that God has sent you there to die, to be mocked and spit on. This requires a level of trust beyond your garden variety “In God We Trust” type. This goes into the Three Hebrew Children level. This is “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him,” type. This level of trust sees beyond this world and into eternity.

And what will this level of trust do for you besides resounding to your everlasting glory? Here and now, when every is astonished, when everyone else is afraid, you won’t be.
