Imagine. (The Jesus Version)
In these three short parables Jesus makes two strong unmistakable points. Concerning the parable of the Weeds in the Field the point is powerful and simple. We are not called to rid the world of sin. There it is in black and white. Sin in our own lives? That’s another matter. But taking care of sin in the world is God’s business. We sow the seed of the good news. He will judge sin. We get this confused at times because quite frankly we find it easier to judge than to sow.
The Mustard Seed and Yeast both make the same point. The kingdom of God starts out small but it grows and cannot be stopped. The world is headed in the opposite direction. Its great empires are all destined to fall but the kingdom, which literally started in the womb of a Virgin from Nazareth, will fill the entire earth. If we keep this in view we will not become discouraged.
Imagine how wonderful and powerful life could be if we always sow instead of judge and if we could not be discouraged. Now stop imagining and understand that this is supposed to be, and can be, reality.
