Hebrews 12:18-29

Where You Have Come To?

The writer of Hebrews states that we have not come to darkness, gloom, and storm. He mentions quite a few other things but those three pretty well sum up the point. Contrast this with the words used to describe what we have come to: heavenly, living, joyful, righteous and perfect.

One set of words describes the circumstances surrounding the giving of the law. The other set of words accompany the new covenant. Let’s see...which ones of these sounds more enticing? Would I rather have darkness, gloom, and storm or life, joy, and perfection? It isn’t really a hard choice is it?

Could it be that more people don’t respond to the gospel message because we so often given the wrong impression of what we are inviting them to? No wonder Paul was so vehemently opposed to those of the circumcision group who insisted on blending the gospel with the law. It isn’t that we are lawless, but rather that we have not come to a mountain that cannot be touched but to Mount Zion.

We have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Therefore we should be thankful and worship with reverence and awe.
