Philippians 2:1-30

Christians With Attitude

In America we like attitude...as long as it’s not directed at us. My dad virtually never swore and he wasn’t a Democrat but spoke admiringly of “Give ‘em Hell” Harry Truman. Things haven’t changed much. We like the confident cocky hero...as long as he’s on our side.

God wants His children to have attitude as well. He can use a guy who has lost a few battles like Moses but how about David. Little David was too young to join his brothers in the army but had enough attitude to take on a giant! Or did he? For sure he fought the giant, but I seem to recall him thinking that he wasn’t really fighting alone. Something about the Lord being with him. He didn’t know if he would live or die, but he knew the Lord was with him and that was enough.

Yes, you should have attitude and plenty of it. Your attitude should be the very same as that of Christ Jesus. His attitude wasn’t to try and get the most or be the most or win the most. He became a servant, and a more complete and wonderful servant than had ever been seen before.

You don’t have to worry about winning when you have God. Regardless of what things may look like you cannot really lose. Winning is assured. You don’t have to worry about being better than someone else when you are a child of God. It is only those who aren’t sure of themselves who have to try and be above others. You don’t have to worry about getting...anything really...when you are an heir of God.

People with such attitudes are willing to humble themselves and to put others first. They will most assuredly experience what Peter meant when he instructed us to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand and He will lift you up. So, have all of the attitude you want, just be sure it is the attitude of Christ.
