Galatians 6:1-18

What Really Counts

In following the way of the Spirit there is still some good advice to be followed in our everyday life. Here are some of Paul’s bullet points from this passage.

  • When someone else sins we should actually try to restore them rather than kick them while they are down. Moreover, we should restore them gently. (I wonder if this gets read very often?)
  • We are supposed to carry each other’s burdens but also carry our own load. In other words we should help others without expecting help in return, but also we willing to let others help us. What a world.
  • We shouldn’t think that we are “something”, at least not in the world’s way of thinking. Our boasting is in the cross f the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We should be willing to share “all good things” with those who teach the Word.
  • You can’t mock God. If you try you will only end up mocking yourself.
  • Good will always ultimately produce good but just not always in the time or way that we expected.
  • We are to do good to all, and while this applies especially to other believers that by no means gives us a pass on doing good to those we consider enemies. Enemies are “all people” too.

Finally, you can do all the rituals and put on quite a show but the only thing that really counts is becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus and that only comes by the way of the Spirit.
