Galatians 3:15-29

In Christ

Abraham was told that through his seed all nations would be blessed. The blessing being promised wasn’t something Abraham could have imagined. It was just peace, or life, or provision for material needs. It was all of the above plus everything else needed to take us all the way to being heirs of God and join heirs with Jesus Christ. This promised blessing was in fact, the Gospel.

Paul makes the excellent point here that this promise was given over four centuries before the law was given. Therefore, the law had nothing to do with the promise which was fulfilled in the Gospel of Christ. The law is good, but it is not a factor in obtaining eternal life.

Being in Christ does another remarkable thing. It makes us one. What Paul is saying here is that there are no racial boundaries when we are in Christ. Under the law there were some racial restrictions but that was clearly for another time and place. We have moved beyond that place. In Christ there are no gender boundaries. The races are still different, and what a glorious variety of difference there is, but no boundaries. Also, the genders are still different, and as the French say, “vive la différence” (long live the difference); however, there are no boundaries.

The same blessings promised to Abraham are available to us all regardless of race or gender. What a wonderful thing to be in Christ!
