Luke 17:11-37

The Kingdom

There are things in this passage that are difficult to understand; however, there are three things that are easy to understand. We can certainly try to fret out the meaning Christ’s warning about not going back, and the thing about one being taken and the other left, and about where the vultures will gather. Still, some things don’t become clear until they are revealed. We should definitely be aware of the three things that we can know about the kingdom.

First, it is within you. God’s kingdom is anywhere God is King. Technically God is King everywhere, but He has chosen to not rule everywhere at this point. Specifically, God’s kingdom is wherever His will is done. Understanding this it is fairly easy to see how His kingdom can be within you. Do His will. The added bonus is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Secondly, Jesus is coming back to earth to literally rule in all of those places where God is only technically King at present. And when He does no one will need an explanation. It will be like lightening in the sky. Every eye will see Him. Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. There is no secret mystery here so do not be taken in by cons who claim to have this figured out. There is nothing to figure out. When He comes back you, and I, and everyone else, will know it.

Finally, it will be a day pretty much like any of the millions of other days on earth. People will be doing what people do. Dogs will be chasing squirrels, cats will be acting smug, boys will be looking at girls, and people will be stuck in traffic. Then suddenly... Kingdom Come.
