There are two miracles in this passage today and they are connected. Do you see how?
The first is a Syrophoenician woman who comes asking Jesus to drive a demon out of her daughter. Actually, it says that she was “begging” Jesus to drive the demon out. Jesus seems to give her an insulting reply and she will not be shaken. Jesus says, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
The second involves a deaf mute. Some people bring him to Jesus begging Jesus to place His hand on the man. Jesus takes the man aside and heals him.
Do you see it? Do you see the connect? In both cases the person who was healed said nothing to Jesus. It is highly likely that neither the daughter nor the mute even knew who Jesus was, or possibly even why anyone was talking to Jesus about them. Yet, they were both healed.
If you are lifting someone up to Jesus do not despair. Press in on their behalf. Jesus is listening and amazing things are just one more prayer away.
