1 + 1 = 2. Right? Always has and always will. That is of course as long as you are counting in the decimal system (Base 10). If you are counting in the binary system (Base 2) the proper equation is 1 + 1 = 10. Always has and always will.
What’s the point? The point that Jesus is making in the parable of the workers is that God’s economy (His system of valuing things) is different from ours. We think that He is so like us. We even think that He thinks like us. But we don’t think this because that is what His Word says. In fact, His Word says quite the opposite.
(Isaiah 55:8-9) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
How do we know what our reward from God will be for our service? We don’t know what it will be. We only know that it will be right. But what if someone less deserving gets more than us? And we know they are less deserving because...?
We may think that we don’t deal in the binary system but that would be wrong. Any time you use any type of computer, from an Apple to an Andriod to an Audi, you are using the binary system. Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it isn’t ingrained into you daily life. You may also think that we need not be concerned with God’s economy. Wrong. The end of the day will eventually come and we will each discover that it has always been about God’s value system all along. I’m glad I can trust Him to get it right.
