Matthew 11:16-30

Life in a fallen world among fallen creatures can be quite taxing.

For one thing, they “can’t get no satisfaction.” I used to be pretty convinced of my political convictions. (Both during my Right Wing period and my Left Wing Period.) Finally, I realized that both sides of virtually any argument can be made and quite convincingly. Furthermore, whether you were perceived to be right or wrong had 1% (or less) to do with your argument and 99% (or more) to do with where the other person was coming from.

So John came living the radical life of a Southern Holiness believer and they said, “He’s crazy.” Jesus came leading the radical life of a Seeker Sensitive believer and they said, “He’s a sinner.” And in both cases “they” were wrong. God accepted them both and was even well pleased with His Son.

This world of no satisfaction where arguments abound but never prevail can become extremely trying at times and excessively wearying. It was a wonderful, liberating, magnificent day for me when I dispensed with argument and embraced Truth. And what a relief and joy to discover the Truth speaking my three favorite verses in Scripture:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
