The Foolishness of God
The world tries. It tries to impress, intimidate even. It puts on its power suits and designer fashions. It hands out its degrees and advanced degrees, prizes and awards. It broadcast during prime time with all the flashy graphics. Slick, well produced, tightly scripted, cool...surely anything they say must be right, must be true? After all there is so much smoke, so many mirrors.
What does God have to match all of this? How about He crushes it in a nano second with both hands tied behind Him using...oh, I don’t know...a donkey? A criminal? A child? Someone like you or me? He does it all the time.
Let’s see, there was the fugitive from justice named Moses arrayed against Pharaoh and his top guys, and the armies of Egypt. God won that one.
There was the young shepherd boy named David armed with a slingshot and five rounds pitted against a nine foot tall well trained warrior from Gath. God won that one.
There was the lone prophet Elijah challenging the 600 prophets of Baal who were supported by the king. The challenge was to bring fire down from heaven, one of Baal’s specialities. God won that one.
Do we see a pattern here?
Oh, and then there was the baby boy born to a peasant couple from Nazareth. He stood against the devil and all of his host and the power of entrenched religious spirits and the power of Rome. Just to make it a fair fight He let them kill Him. Let’s see, God won that one as well. Boy, did He ever.
Do not be afraid. To not be discouraged. Do not be intimidated. And do not be impressed by the world’s displays. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
