Luke 8:19-39

Jesus on Board

Occasionally I will be driving and come up behind a car with a sticker or some sort of placard that says “Baby on Board.” I’m not sure what that means. I know that it is supposed to mean that there is a baby in the vehicle. (Though I suspect the baby is occasionally taken out.) But why do I need that information? Does it mean the driver is going to drive slowly? Are they going to do something crazy? Do I need to be aware that they might stop suddenly to change a diaper? What does it mean?

Actually, I wasn’t just being silly there. I really don’t know what it means unless they are just bragging. Now let’s consider what it means when we claim that Jesus is on board in our lives. It may be that we are just bragging and we really don’t know what it means beyond the fact that Jesus may, or may not, be on board. Maybe we don’t think about it at all. But when the storm comes we had better think about it.

Here are three things we learn about Jesus being on board from this passage.

1. When Jesus is on board there is peace. Storm or no storm He was sleeping. If Jesus is truly on board you can’t sink no matter how things may appear.

2. When Jesus is on board there is sufficient power to handle any and every situation. He may not always calm the storm but it isn’t because He lacks power or authority.

3. No matter how much you think you know about Jesus, when He is on board you are most likely going to end up amazed.

So now the only question would be, “Is Jesus on board?”
