A Tear in the Fabric.
I looking back at this passage from Matthew I addressed Jesus talking about new wine in old wineskins, but I don’t think I went far enough.
When Jesus talks about not sewing new cloth onto an old garment and pouring new wine into old wineskins we default to thinking about religious institutions. No. No. No. He is talking about the world system. The only time that the church, or the worship of Jehovah by the Jews, or marriage for that matter are unsuited to hold the presence of the kingdom is when they take on the values and forms of the world system.
Those values and forms consist of things such as: might makes right, the rich exploit the poor, the strong oppress the weak, style takes precedence over substance, etc. There are times when these things take root in various places of those institutions ordained by God, and when they do those institutions become corrupted and unsuited to hold the kingdom just as the world is unsuited to hold the kingdom. Pour the dynamic newness of the kingdom into them and disaster ensues. The kingdom cannot be restrained. These worldly constraints will themselves be shattered, torn, and rendered as useless as they really are.
The true worship of God (in Spirit and in Truth) is designed to hold the kingdom. Marriage is designed to hold the kingdom. And only one other thing is designed to hold the kingdom - you are!
